The State’s major annual air show Wings Over Illawarra is set to return in 2016, showcasing impressive historic, military, modern and aerobatic aircraft to visitors from across the State.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward said the Illawarra is known for its beautiful beaches, national parks and fantastic array of events.
“I am pleased to announce that the NSW Government will be continuing their support for Wings Over Illawarra in 2016 through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW,” Mr Ward said.
“Regional events are not only a proven way to deliver economic benefit to our community, but they provide visitors and with a wonderful opportunity to take a short break and further explore the South Coast’s cafes and restaurants, or spend a day or two discovering the picturesque Shoalhaven towns of Jervis Bay, Nowra, Mollymook and Ulladulla.
“I encourage families and aviation enthusiasts to purchase their event tickets soon so they don’t miss out on next year’s exciting event.”
Wings Over Illawarra is the only major annual air show in NSW, with its success recognised in 2013 when it was named the Gold Winner for Events at the South Coast Tourism Awards.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said events are vital in helping grow the NSW visitor economy as they provide compelling reasons for visitors to explore a particular part of NSW.
“The support for Regional events ensure they continue to play an important role in further cementing our position as Australia’s number one tourism and events destination,” Mr Ayres said.
Wings Over Illawarra 2016 will be held at Illawarra Regional Airport from 30 April till 1 May. Tickets are now available and be purchased at, www.wingsoverillawarra.com.au.
