In 2020 Wings Over Illawarra will incorporate a General Aviation precinct featuring static aircraft displays and flying schools along with industry exhibitor sites for aviation suppliers, manufacturers and service providers.
The introduction of the GA precinct will provide the aviation community with a General & Recreational Aviation industry event alongside Australia’s premier annual airshow, while showcasing “grass roots” aviation to one of the largest airshow crowds in Australia.
It will offer the general public an opportunity to interact with the general aviation industry, view products, ask questions and see up close the affordable side of aviation, and of course inspire new members to the join the industry.
Aircraft displays will range from microlights and gyrocopters to the latest in composite sport and recreational aircraft plus of course the classics and a few of the more unusual aircraft types.
Exhibitors will include flying schools and training organisations, aircraft manufacturers and importers, aircraft builders, pilots, technology manufacturers and suppliers, government regulators, industry organisations, pilot supplies and all things aviation.
Recreational and General Aviation provides a wide range of activities and options and is an economical way to take part in Aviation, and the The Wings Over Illawarra GA Precinct is the ideal place for the general public to see this first hand.
For those wishing to fly in to the event, we appreciate that many will have last light issues getting away after the event at that time of the year, so to assist in making things easier, we will be closing out the air display and lifting the TRA at 16:00, considerably earlier than previous years. In addition, we have now been successful in gaining approval for underwing camping in the large aircraft parking area on the western side of the airfield, so pilots may choose to camp overnight and depart the following morning.
The camping area will only be available to pilots and their passengers as there is no road access to the area.
The camp site will feature toilets, a shower block, an undercover area with tables and chairs, lighting, a couple of fire pits with seating around, a bar and the rotary club of Wollongong will be providing dinner by way of a buffet barbecue at a very reasonable cost. Information regarding the aircraft parking and underwing camping area and facilities can be found on the Flying In page of this website.
